I have read many personal accounts written by German soldiers, hate the way they are treated in many movies, wooden, sneering, arrogant, cruel, so COI was a real treat.
I wonder if an American or British moviemaker could pull off a film about a German unit in today's world? I would hope so, & I think they probably could, but then again who knows how much pressure the WOKE world could muster?
Some of the more recent films to come out of Germany, but they tend to over play the anti war theme. Could an American fil maker today find a James Coburn to pull it off?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-71817334626534197392019-09-26T09:01:58.432-05:002019-09-26T09:01:58.432-05:00Thanks for commenting. So true. I liked the ambiguous ending where you do not know what happens to the two main characters (but, of course, if you have seen "The Eagle has Landed", you know how Steiner dies). I did not like the change from an Old West duel to a partnering up of bitter enemies to go down fighting side by side. This did not make sense other than that Steiner tended to do the exact opposite of what was expected.

signed - War Movie BuffAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-3647725988959679432011-06-02T13:14:13.479-05:002011-06-02T13:14:13.479-05:00I think it actually made it into my Top 20.
