I liked Spencer Tracy in this movie a lot more than in some of his other films.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-41835780409242882922020-02-04T13:45:19.466-06:002020-02-04T13:45:19.466-06:00In the book "Drums Along the Mohawk" the...In the book "Drums Along the Mohawk" there's a scene where an Indian who is allied with the American colonists ponders an enemy village that has been raided by a Patriot militia.

He has seen many village raids in wars with other tribes (I believe that his own village had in fact attacked some time ago by the tribe that was now raided). The difference he notices is that Indian attacks result in random and dispersed devastation as the raiders search for booty, whereas damage inflicted by the American militia has been systematic and for the purpose of destroying everything of value.

I suspect that a similar theme appears in most of the Indian wars. Not a perfect film either, but Tahei and Matashichi have a much stronger chemistry than Towne and Marriner, who for most of the film are rarely seen together, and from whose perspective the film is much more rarely told.TParkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03277209600461304524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-64553922735400458702018-01-07T09:49:47.209-06:002018-01-07T09:49:47.209-06:00The scene in "The Searchers" would have ...The scene in "The Searchers" would have been better executed with different music, in my opinion. The subtitle "part 1-Rogers' Rangers" seems to imply that they planned to make a sequel based on the second part of the book.
