No other reason than that.War Movie Buffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05999735218343872013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-6336402893869317712020-03-23T12:30:37.743-05:002020-03-23T12:30:37.743-05:00To harp on your point: Do they ever explain why th...To harp on your point: Do they ever explain why the German submarine was cruising the river? It seemed to be deliberately waiting for something rather than, say, holing up for refit and repairs, but there didn't seem to be anything of military value in the area. Sure, it makes for interesting scenes, but as Larry Niven (I think) said, Moby-Dick doesn't work as a metaphor for blah blah blah unless he also works as a whale.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-14341839655951913232014-06-03T16:55:50.862-05:002014-06-03T16:55:50.862-05:00Good for you!Good for you!War Movie Buffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05999735218343872013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-27322651338488840852014-05-31T01:36:18.031-05:002014-05-31T01:36:18.031-05:00I wish that I was sponsored by a nice craft brewer...I wish that I was sponsored by a nice craft brewery, my costs would decrease dramatically. On a side note, I have found that many of the movies I review are greatly improved by alcohol, although it would be better to just not watch them in the first place.historyonfilmhttp://www.historyonfilm.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-62245576805864368582014-05-28T17:50:11.774-05:002014-05-28T17:50:11.774-05:00I had not seen Murphy's War since we were kids...I had not seen Murphy's War since we were kids. I had done my review of Shout about a year ago and thought of the idea of pairing it with MW, but it was not available on Netflix so I put it on the back burner. Recently I saw it was on You Tube and it was full speed ahead (as Murphy would have said). I was surprised how well it held up and how good a match it was for Shout. Murphy...I've seen both of these over the years. Murphy's War is by far the better film. Better acting and obviously much bigger budget. Meant as a star vehicle for O'Toole who was still on a role. Shout is more of a straight pulp adventure and it works as such. I'm sure Wilber Smith's book on which its based is much better. Marvin could play his role in his sleep. I'm sure the ending of Murphy didn't help its box office but I liked it as it summed up the off the wall character. He won by losing. I hadn't thought about comparing these two, nice call. Oh, and they are both too long for their own good.JHardyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12975399049775935074noreply@blogger.com
