I would love a miniseries that covers Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift and give the Zulus some coverage.War Movie Buffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05999735218343872013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-67737541691114011172020-05-11T15:47:08.000-05:002020-05-11T15:47:08.000-05:00Thanks for the historical review! I'm glad to have a fuller picture, especially about the motivations and tactics of the Zulu.

In fact, I think this may be one of those rare movies where a remake - or more accurately a retreatment of the same subject - would not be a waste of time. If we've seen the legend, let's see the battle as it really looked from the British side, or from the side of the Zulu (although I imagine for that second movie you'd need to show a lot of events outside of the battle to give adequate context and adequately tell a story about those men).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-5758972409052296592019-02-22T13:17:41.875-06:002019-02-22T13:17:41.875-06:00I have seen this movie since 1971, 30+ times.

As to Hook, IMO, was made a hero and his character display is a big part of insanity war. Sorry his family is so distressed. Happens in many films, Band of Brothers, Rudy, to name some other classics. Personally is one of my top 25 favorite movies of all times, regardless of historical accuracy. If wanted a documentary would get it. Is available on History Channel LOL.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-24243755359944551432019-01-18T21:12:02.189-06:002019-01-18T21:12:02.189-06:00Thank you. My only real problem with the accuracy is the mistreatment of Hook.War Movie Buffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05999735218343872013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-80656961886203531682019-01-16T13:12:36.188-06:002019-01-16T13:12:36.188-06:00Having been to the site and studied the battle to ...Having been to the site and studied the battle to a great extent during courses at war college in Pretoria in the 70's, I think you have done an outstanding job in analysing the film vs known facts. A 50/50 outcome is spot on and does in no way deride the entertainment value of the movie itself, which we should never forget was made as a "movie, not a "documentary"!
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00041324121896573588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-66444929503333870962019-01-11T19:28:13.380-06:002019-01-11T19:28:13.380-06:00Didn't Hitch get hit by a bullet which shatter...Didn't Hitch get hit by a bullet which shattered his scapula? It was no less entertaining for being a little wide of the historical mark. Brits have never been wholeheartedly embraced no matter where they planted their flag and South Africa was no exception. Had the Zulu thought it out a bit better they could have engulfed the entire installation in one four-sided assault.
