I would also recommend The Heroes of Telemark - I know that technically it is based on true events but the film is quite fictionalized. Kudos on a great blog. Like I said it's given me that "A - Ha!" moment, like when you discover that the TV Batman was meant to be over-the-top.
I watched Where Eagles Dare on the weekend and I enjoyed much more because of your review.
Cheers
JovanJovanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16130432846436798472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-21287854069202351892012-06-02T08:27:12.518-05:002012-06-02T08:27:12.518-05:00Jayraven,

Turn in your Hardy card.

Can't agree with you on the poster. The tagline is ridiculous and the picture is too over the top.War Movie Buffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05999735218343872013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-43940384706207184212012-06-01T23:55:22.210-05:002012-06-01T23:55:22.210-05:00Hahaha, "Bluebird calling Danny Boy"Hahaha, "Bluebird calling Danny Boy"Byronhttp://todaysasskicker.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-79946469069219727782012-05-28T15:27:07.995-05:002012-05-28T15:27:07.995-05:00I like it better than Basterds because I can never...I like it better than Basterds because I can never get completely over the killing of Hitler plot. As ridiculous as Eagles is, you could argue that it was possible for the events to have occurred. Basterds stretches credulity too much even for a fantasy. Plus I do not like movies that envision changing history so we can have a better ending.War Movie Buffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05999735218343872013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-28361858788125581482012-05-28T12:45:48.958-05:002012-05-28T12:45:48.958-05:00Of course this one is an old favorite for me too. ...Of course this one is an old favorite for me too. Pure pulpy goodness. A good companion piece to Navaronne. The major drawback would be its too long. One too many climaxes. The music is excellent and without it the movie would be alot less of a "grand" experience. Burton and Eastwood play well off each other. Burton particularly seems to enjoy his role and looks relaxed. Eastwood may as well have his man without a name outfit on and answer to "blondy". The cablecar fight is inspired and the stunt work was great as you mention. I love the artwork on the movie poster. Like something off a men's adventure pulp which of course was its goal im sure. That line "and a beautiful blond named Mary" is so 1960s. A beautiful blonde that can pack a machine gun! I also remember repeating that Burton line "Bluebird calling Danny Boy" over and over with his british accent. At least I think it was bluebird. Always felt sorry for that poor bastard that parachuted into the tree. Especially with the hot females around. Years later when I became a Hammer film fan I learned that that was Ingrid Pitt in a small role. She could melt some snow!JHardyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12975399049775935074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-59570893712822824742012-05-27T14:14:58.112-05:002012-05-27T14:14:58.112-05:00This movie was another positive surprise, I liked ...This movie was another positive surprise, I liked it a lot. The cinematography is stunning, the actors are good. I prefer Inglourious Basterds but it has aged very well. I thin it's better thna Guns of Navarone but it's possible I liked The Eagle has Landed more. You made me realise that it has more in common with Inglorious Basterds than I would have previously considered.Jovanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16130432846436798472noreply@blogger.com
