The joke was a reference to the movie "The Dam Busters" where the main character had a dog by that name. When I reviewed that movie I mentioned that they are doing a remake and I argued they should not use that name for the dog in the new version, even though it would be historically accurate. Go to: http://warmoviebuff.blogspot.com/2010/12/dueling-movies-dam-busters-vs-633.html

I can certainly see where you would be offended if you did not know the background for the joke. I will go back and take the "joke" out and I thank you for calling my attention to how some could misconstrue it. Please accept my apology and thanks. It is ridiculous. They always have to force a female onto it to lure the female audience.

You do realize the name of the dog in the movie is Arab (pronounced Ay - rab).

Good comparison to We Were Soldiers.War Movie Buffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05999735218343872013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201660899514011402.post-51834055715380393402012-01-02T12:44:08.451-06:002012-01-02T12:44:08.451-06:00this one shows up now and then on tv. really shows...this one shows up now and then on tv. really shows the value of B/W photography in circa war movies. adds to the gritty realism, especially in the rainy night scenes. I like Michum in this one and Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison. He was a hollywood badboy but he played a good grubby soldier. The fact that they killed himm off shows this was made in 1945 by a director like Wellman who wanted realism. This is on par in a smaller scope way with Battleground and They were Expendable. Gibson's war movie We Were Soldiers has a similar journalist character in the middle of battle (Barry Pepper) I think. Not as good a flick of course.
I get a kick how those old movie posters distorted the movies. Good lookin chick who prob would have told G.I. to go bathe first. "The Mightiest Action Drama Ever Filmed!" when this was no doubt meant to be a much smaller, slice of military life movie. Not a cigarette in sight tho!
Best name for a war movie doggie ever. Appropriate since with the lousy army food...well you know the rest.JHardyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12975399049775935074noreply@blogger.com
