On this day in 2010, I started this blog. The first post was an introduction to the blog. It began as a mission to review Military History magazine's 100 Greatest War Movies. It took a lot longer than I expected because I soon added reviews of movies not on the list. I have since finished the 100 and have started my own 100 Best War Movies. I have loved every minute of it and have now reviewed over 700 movies. For this anniversary, I thought I would do something different. I have seen so many deaths on celluloid over the 14 years. Here is a list of the war movies that had the most deaths.
War Movie Body Counts
There are sites that count the number of people killed in movies. I thought you might be interested in which war movies made the top 100. You would think the genre would have a good number of movies on the list, but of the top 100, only 22 are what I would call war movies. For instance, “The Wild Bunch” is #31 with 145 deaths, but I don’t consider it a war movie. And I do not consider the Lord of the Rings movies to be war movies. “LOTR: The Return of the King” is number 1 with 836. Here are the war movies that made the list:
2. Kingdom of Heaven - 610 (Balian kills 40)
3. 300 - 600 (Leonidas kills 30)
4. Troy - 572 (Achilles kills 35)

Congrats! Best war movie blog out there, many more to come, TR
ReplyDeleteYes, congratulations! I enjoy reading your reviews for movies I have seen, movies that I might someday see, and (last but not least) movies that I will now try to avoid.
ReplyDeleteIt is impressive that your general guidelines for reviewing movies have stood up over these fourteen years. I don't think that would be true for everyone.
